This explains what imsmarter (imsmarter.io) stores about you, why, and who else ever sees it. We keep this short and honest rather than long and vague.
What we store
- Account: your email address and password (hashed — we never store or see the plain password), or, if you use Google sign-in, your Google account id and email.
- Progress: what you've practiced and how you did — keystrokes, accuracy, CEFR level estimate, vocabulary you've saved, spaced-repetition review history, chapters/books read, and similar learning data. This is what powers your progress page, streaks, and the AI coach.
- Error profiles: if you use Coach (Max), we analyze the grammar mistakes in your practice answers to find repeating patterns, so we can build a short lesson targeted at exactly what you get wrong. This is derived from the same practice answers above, not a separate hidden dataset.
- Reports: if you report a mistake in a phrase or lesson, we store what you reported and which phrase it's about, so we can review and fix it.
- Billing: your subscription status and plan. We don't store your card number — that's handled entirely by Stripe (below).
Your voice
Speak mode records you so you can compare your pitch curve against a native speaker's. That recording is processed entirely in your browser — it is never uploaded to our servers or stored anywhere. If we ever change this (e.g. to add AI pronunciation feedback that requires server-side processing), we'll update this page first and make it clear in the product.
Who else sees it (our processors)
We use a small number of service providers to run imsmarter. Each only sees what it needs to do its job:
- Stripe — payment processing and billing. Handles your card details directly; we never see or store them.
- Anthropic — powers the AI features (the chat tutor, reading/listening/writing practice grading, Coach lessons). Your practice answers and chat messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response; they're not used to train Anthropic's models under our agreement with them.
- ElevenLabs — text-to-speech for AI-generated practice sentences (Pro/Max), and the voice used to narrate those sentences is modeled on our own native-speaker recordings, not your voice.
- Cloudflare — hosts the web app, proxies traffic, and sends transactional email (welcome, password reset).
- Hetzner — hosts the application server and database.
Cookies and local storage
We use one cookie: a signed session cookie that keeps you logged in. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser's local storage is used to resume an in-progress lesson if you reload or navigate away mid-way (a "reading" or typing session snapshot, kept on your device only), to remember an anonymous id used for the basic product-usage counts described below, and for a few small preferences (like your chosen keyboard layout).
Basic product analytics
We track a short, fixed list of product events (like "signed up," "finished a chapter," "viewed the paywall") to understand whether imsmarter is actually working for people — nothing more granular than that, no click-by-click tracking, and no third-party analytics service. This data lives on our own server, not a third party's. The landing page records an anonymous page view even before you sign up or identify yourself in any way.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/EEA (or anywhere with similar rights), you can ask to see what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or have your account and data deleted. Right now this is handled manually — email support@imsmarter.io from the address on your account and we'll take care of it, normally within a few days.
